Success Metrics

Our product vision is to create an exceptional and immersive culinary experience with the WITF Cooking Cultures Class. We aim to offer a series of interactive cooking sessions for adults that go beyond traditional cooking classes. By blending cultural exploration, socialization, and hands-on learning, our vision is to bring people together, foster community engagement, and promote cultural appreciation through the joy of cooking.

Research

Research has shown that cooking events, such as the WITF Cooking Cultures, are effective in fostering community and socializing. Cooking provides a common ground for individuals to connect, collaborate, and share experiences. It creates a shared space where people can engage in meaningful conversations, exchange cultural knowledge, and build relationships. The interactive nature of cooking events promotes teamwork, cooperation, and a sense of belonging, strengthening social bonds among participants. Furthermore, cooking together encourages communication, empathy, and understanding as individuals learn about different cuisines, culinary traditions, and cultural practices. These shared experiences foster a sense of community, promote cultural appreciation, and create a welcoming environment for individuals to connect and socialize.

First Prototype

In the initial prototypes of the WITF Cooking Cultures event, branded recipe guides and table mats were introduced to enhance the cooking experience. These guides were designed to be user-friendly, considering cognitive load and utilizing progressive disclosure techniques. Efforts were made to streamline the backend process of creating these guides, ensuring efficiency and scalability. The incorporation of branded guides aimed to provide a cohesive and visually appealing experience while reducing cognitive load for participants. Continual feedback and iteration are essential to improve the design and meet the goals of enhancing user understanding and optimizing production for WITF.

My Work

As part of the WITF Cooking Cultures event, I leveraged various UX principles to enhance the overall user experience. Through user research, I gathered valuable insights to inform the design process. Using wireframing and prototyping in tools like Figma, I created intuitive and user-friendly interfaces. Conducting usability testing and focus groups, I analyzed interactions, ease of use, and efficiency to identify areas for improvement.

Iterations

1 ~ Table Banner: Next Events

As part of the initial development of WITF Cooking Cultures, a table banner is designed to provide information about the upcoming events. The banner features a QR code for easy preregistration, aiming to increase retention and interest among participants. By making registration accessible and efficient, attendees who have a positive experience at the current event are more likely to sign up for future ones. The table banner serves as a means to showcase what WITF has planned for the next event and encourages engagement through preregistration.

2 ~ Dessert Recipe

The dessert recipe in the WITF Cooking Cultures event embraces a minimalist design approach. It prioritizes simplicity and clarity to ensure a stress-free and enjoyable experience, particularly for parents seeking a relief and an opportunity for socialization. The recipe emphasizes making the ingredients easily apparent and provides clear information on allergies to ensure the safety and well-being of participants. Moreover, the recipe aims to minimize the number of instructions, focusing on essential steps and avoiding unnecessary complexity. By streamlining the recipe and reducing cognitive load, participants can engage in the cooking process with ease, fostering a relaxed and social atmosphere. The minimalist design approach not only enhances the user experience but also aligns with the event's objective of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all attendees.

3 ~ Main Dish Recipe

The main dish recipe maintains consistency with the dessert recipe by incorporating a minimalist design and emphasizing key elements such as ingredients, allergies, and branding for partners. It utilizes images to aid ingredient identification and serves as a take-home memento for participants. This approach enhances the overall experience, strengthens partnerships, and creates lasting connections within the WITF Cooking Cultures event.

4 ~ WITF Liability Form

The WITF liability form plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organization against potential legal issues arising from injuries or incidents during the cooking event. By requiring participants to sign the liability form, WITF establishes clear expectations and boundaries regarding personal responsibility and assumes no liability for any harm or adverse reactions that may occur. This form acts as a legal document that outlines the risks associated with participating in the event, including the handling of equipment and ingredients, potential allergens, and the general nature of the cooking environment. By ensuring participants are aware of and acknowledge these risks, WITF aims to mitigate potential liabilities and create a safe and responsible environment for all involved. The liability form serves as an essential precautionary measure, providing clarity and protection for both WITF and participants throughout the event.

Challenges and Response

Challenges

Challenges identified with this event primarily involve the backend operations, such as managing the high volume of ingredient preparation, securing a suitable indoor venue for accommodating a large number of participants, ensuring proper funding for the event, and acquiring the necessary equipment for everyone to actively engage in food preparation.

Solutions

To address these challenges, potential solutions could include:

1. Ingredient Preparation: Streamline workflows, involve volunteers or staff members, and utilize professional kitchen equipment.

2. Venue Selection: Seek out spacious indoor venues with appropriate facilities for cooking demonstrations and socializing areas.

3. Fundraising Strategies: Secure funds through sponsorships, ticket sales, and marketing initiatives.

4. Equipment Acquisition: Collaborate with local suppliers, rental companies, or encourage participants to bring their own utensils.

5. Collaboration with Food Experts: Partner with experts to develop allergy-friendly recipes and ensure safe food handling practices.

By addressing these challenges through effective planning, partnerships, and resource allocation, the event can overcome obstacles and provide a seamless and enjoyable cooking experience for participants.

Conclusion

The WITF Cooking Cultures event promotes engagement and community building, overcoming challenges through effective solutions. Businesses benefit from exposure and networking opportunities. In our school project, we collaborated with WITF, received feedback, and plan to test the concept further. This iterative process ensures success in meeting WITF's goals and engaging the community.
